Proximity Learning, an Austin based company is Proud to work with over 100 Texas school districts throughout. Six years ago we started offering middle school and high school foreign language options and recently expanded to elementary foreign language.   This year we expanded to offer HS History and HS English. In the summer we plan to expand further to include Electives, Math, and Advance Placement.

Kentucky World Language Initiative

Are you having trouble finding teachers to staff your world language courses? Let Proximity Learning staff them for you!

Languages: Spanish, Computer Science, Latin, German, Mandarin, ASL, Japanese

Accreditation: AdvancED, NCAA

 

Elementary Program:

Length: Once or twice a week for 30-45 minutes apiece for grades K-5.

Lesson:

  • For grades K-2 the students will learn songs and introduction phrases as well as numbers and colors.
  • For grades 3-5, the students will learn more phrases and everyday vocabulary. This course is treated as an introduction to the language to help the students get more immersed in a different culture.

Structure:

  • We would offer this preferably through a smartboard/projector option.
  • We would have the in-class proctor login to the smartboard and the class would sit and observe our teacher.
  • A camera would be hooked up to the smartboard so our teacher could see the class.
  • This class is fun and interactive and provides the students with a differentiated style of learning.

 

Middle School Program

If you adopt our elementary school program:

  • 6th Grade: Students choose a Foreign Language
  • 6th & 7th Grade: Students complete section I split into two years (part I in 6th and part II in 7th)
  • 8th and 9th Grade: Students complete section II split into two years (part I in 8th and part II in 9th)
    • After successful completion they will earn one HS credit

If you start our program in Middle School

  • 7th & 8th Grade: Students complete section I, split into two years (part I in 7th and part II in 8th)
  • After successful completion they will receive one HS credit

       Course Structure:

  • Classes 5 days a week (Block scheduling available)
    • Two days each week, teachers lead group classes in online classrooms
    • Two days a week, students complete interactive assignments and assessments
    • One flex day can be used for live tutoring or more time for coursework and quizzes
    • Assignments, assessments, grades & more accessible online 24/7
    • Engaging live class activities emphasizing participation
  • Aid/teacher in off period will be in the classroom to monitor students

 

High School Program

  • 9th or 10th grade start taking one section a year starting with introductory and going up to AP/IB if applicable 

Course Structure:

Virginia Approved Courses

Proximity Learning Chinese 1 is a fully-online blended learning course that combines web-based asynchronous coursework and materials with face-to-face small group synchronous instruction delivered remotely using web conferencing. Synchronous class sessions are mandatory, and these small-group classes convene online for a minimum of two or three one-hour sessions per week for the duration of the course.

The course is an introduction to Mandarin Chinese as a spoken and written language. Coursework includes on-line live class, self-study, tutoring hours, assignments, weekly quizzes and exams. Chinese reading and writing are also emphasized in this course.

Students build a basic foundation of Chinese language and culture. Class time is dedicated to interactive activities allowing students to acquire skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Through multimedia teaching materials and activities, students are introduced to many aspects of Chinese culture.
